After reading Brown ButtahFly's post a few months ago I was inspired to sign up for a 5K in the hopes that it would force me to reach my weightloss goals once and for all. So I registered for the Miracle Miles 5K back in May and started the Couch to 5K program. Well, that only lasted for a month before I dropped the ball again.
Now here's where having a support system helps :)
Nihuru started a weightloss group a couple weeks ago and that got me back in gear. I jumped back into the C25K program in Week 6 (which I still haven't completed). Fast forward two weeks later and I'm down 7.8 pounds and I just completed my first 5K!!! Whoot whoot!!! lol
I don't have any pics of myself at the run since no one wanted to get up at 6:30 this morning but since I use the Nike+ system I was able to get this graph of my run.
As you can see I walked a lot of the way, but I'm still happy because my only goal was to finish. I am going to sign up for another run for late October or early November to keep myself on track.
If you've been trying to lose weight and are having a problem staying on track, join the team because it may help.

CONGRATULATIONS! I am so envious of anyone who can run. I ran track FOREVER...got older and had major surgeries on my leg and can barely walk most days LOL...but I'm building up to running short distances. Again, much love and congratulations.
Thanks Nihuru! Definitely take it easy while easing back into running to avoid reinjuring yourself. Once you're walking regular distances you may want to check out the Couch to 5K program since it will allow your body to gradually get used to running again. There are podcasts and everything for it. Anyhoo, thanks again and congrats on your weightloss :)
Congratulations Southerngirl!
I knew you could do it! I only logged on to see how you did and I think you did super for your first 5K. Today's race was a success I'll blog more about it later, I'm exhausted. Take Care and keep running, I hope to run in a race with you in the near future, take care.
I know you feel like you can do anything now since you have accomplished this race, I know it's a great feeling. Congrats again. Are you addicted yet? Have you been searching for your next race? Do you plan on running any more races anytime soon? Sorry for all the questions, I'm just excited, lol. Even though running can be hard it also gives me a rush. Take cAre
Hey BrownButtahfly, I can't wait to hear all about your race. And to hear how your hubby did since it was his first one. Make sure you tell us if he complained so that we can all pick on him, j/k lol.
I'm guilty as charged... I feel so empowered, especially since I couldn't even run 60 seconds a few months ago! And I'm planning on signing up for races in October and November to keep myself on track. I've got them all picked out :)
WOW!!! Great Job!! I researched the Couch to 5K and it looks interesting. I have a couple activity challenges for myself before getting to that one but I'm looking forward to trying it out.
Great!!! I am proud of you...You can do it. Keep up the good work.
Thanks Meikmeika and Locksuluv :)
Girrrll! You know I've been struggling with weight loss issues for the past year.
And you might remember that I proclaimed I would train for a half-marathon a year ago.
Um, yeah...didn't happen.
I was just in Charleston over the weekend and I had a wonderful time.
I kind of want a reason to go back. I have a friend who does the Cooper River Bridge Run every year. It's a 10K. And next year it takes place at the beginning of April, which gives me just about 6 months to train for it if I start now.
It was kind of knocking around in my head as something I MIGHT want to try and SHOULD do, but reading your blog has inspired me.
I'm a few steps closer to committing to it. I appreciate the link you included with the training suggestions.
Hey BlackRussian, did you ever sign up for the race? Having a deadline in the form of the race day really helped me get off the couch. I need to sign up for another one asap because I've been slacking off again.
